For the last nine seasons, the work of the Concordia Team has been called the Northeast Church Project of the Hippos Excavations. It bore that name because work began in the Northeast Church. However, as work has expanded into the areas neighboring the church, and as those areas may not be related directly to the church, the project has adopted a new name: the Northeast Insula Project. The word insula (Latin: “island”) is, in architecture, block of grouped but separate buildings or a single structure. As the project now deals with multiple streets and clusters of buildings, the name change is appropriate.
With less than two weeks to go before the dig, team members are starting to post to their blogs. Dr. Chambers is already in Israel and having great adventures. Kristina Neumann is experiencing pottery training in Rome. You can find them at http://virtualdig.org.
In three weeks the team will be in the air and on the way to Tel Aviv! Packing lists have been distributed; instructions for travel given. Now the challenge . . . make it all fit into two suitcases.

The dig ended with a flourish…two oil lamps in two days. After a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee and final farewells, the team is on its way home. The adventure continues next summer starting 5 July.
