Costs

Participants normally arrive on a Friday and stay for a minimum of two weeks (3 weekends and two weeks).

Full Season with no tours: $2830

Included are dig fees assessed by the University of Haifa (for the dig expenses, housing and meals), daily bus to the site, and travel insurance. Fees are subject to change due to  fluctuation in the value of the dollar.

Two-weeks with no tours: $1650

Transfers and tours:

Adult and partial-season volunteers may select from the following optional items

  • Tours
    • Sea of Galilee (day trip on the first day in Israel prior to the dig) — $60
  • Airport transport with the team at the beginning and the end of the season($65 each way)

Students and first-time volunteers participate in these extra activities.  Team members who arrive or depart at times different from that of the team must arranged airport transfers through the team director. The cost will vary depending on the numbers of people travelling together and the mode of transportation chosen.

Insurance

Concordia purchases travel insurance for each participant with trip cancellation of $500 (higher amounts optional).  Travel insurance may be of great assistance in case of illness, injury, or family crisis.

However, due to the volatile nature of the political and security situation in the Middle East, travel insurance policies likely will not provide coverage when a security crisis arises.  Any act falling under the policy’s definition of “war” will void coverage. Travel insurance companies have tightened their definitions after problems caused by the 2006 Lebanon War. Travel insurance companies will likely not cover additional costs that arise due to a security crisis. Participants must have the ability to cover security-related costs.

Policy about fees

A deposit of $100 is due within thirty days of registration. The deposit is applicable to the fees listed above. Remaining fees are due 1 June 2016. Once paid, these expenses are non-refundable.

Unexpected Expenses

Medical — Participants must supply proof of medical coverage.  And the travel insurance does provide medical coverage for items not covered by the participants primary carrier. However, medical care in Israel will require payment in full at the time of receiving service. One must then submit the paid bill to the primary carrier and only afterwards to the travel insurance.

Program Interruption and/or Evacuation — Should unexpected events require program interruption and/or evacuation for security purposes, participants are responsible for their own expenses (travel, lodging, food).

Participants should carry with them sufficient resources for such unexpected expenses and will provide to the program director proof of their ability to address such circumstances.  Concordia recommends that each participant carry a credit card with a sufficient line of credit. Participants should notify credit card companies of their trip to Israel.
