With increased computing power, we are now able to present two larger models that document the final status of the excavation at the end of the 2016 season.
The first shows the North Building, likely a support building and perhaps living quarters for the community maintaining the Northeast Church:
The second shows the entire House of Tyche. It is a very large file and may require several attempts to load it over the internet.
It was windy on the mountain today.
We have begun the process of finishing our work. Most of the morning was spent “cleaning” the site in anticipation of the drone work on Tuesday.
We also have a more complete model of the garden area of the House of Tyche.
We have a corner! After several days of digging, Arny, Glenn and Emily revealed the northwest corner of the North Building.
We now now that the building is 8.94 m from exterior corner to exterior corner. The wall is solidly built and may have functioned as an exterior wall for part of the compound, especially and the mountain dropped off to the north.
Our model for the day shows the wall in its larger context.
We continue to clean up the garden area and as a result have a better perspective on the water fixture in the balk.
In the east section, we recovered some nine nails and more blocks of tesserae. Bet we remain uncertain about the walls. The so-called floating wall sees to not be so.
In the west section, the bench seems to be a shelf (if at all), and the floor level near W540 rises up a small step about a meter north of the wall. With this rise is a seeing stylobate aligned with the column in W540.
In the internal corner between W2156 and W2153 is a taboun of approximately 90 cm in diameter.
